Tool kits and apprentice stipends keeping Zanzibar's door-carving and kanga-printing traditions in working practice.
Zanzibar's stone-town carvers and kanga printers are ageing, and the apprenticeships that used to carry the craft forward have thinned. This fund supplies tool kits and a small apprentice stipend to workshops that take on a new learner.
What a donation buys
- 25 USD — a starter carving-tool kit
- 60 USD — one apprentice's monthly stipend
- 200 USD — a workshop's quarter of tools and stipends
Workshops, apprentice names, and a materials ledger are published quarterly.
